How do these new technologies impact us?
With so much innovation and technology advancement in the fashion industry there are many impacts on the world economically, scientifically, and socially. The most basic effect this has is plain and simple: great new gadgets. Wearable technology is becoming extremely popular and everyone wants to know about the great new inventions that are a part of this new trend. There are many different kinds of wearable technology. Such inventions include things like light boards that attach to clothes that can display images, bracelets that contact paramedics during emergencies, headbands that can improve your focus, and more. All of these are going to eventually be able to increase convenience and help us solve problems in our everyday lives. It’s only a matter of time before more of these products are mass produced.
Economic Effects
Since both technology and fashion are both global markets, putting them together only affects the global economy that much more. The wearable technology market is definitely on the up-rise and is expected to contribute $19 billion to the global market by 2018 (Sloane 17). The reason wearable technology is expected to contribute so much to the global market is because statistics show 71% of people ages 16-24 were extremely interested in wearable tech (Sloane 17). The graph to the right demonstrates this (Gott).
Social Effects
As far as social effects go, wearable technology is a completely new and different trend. Many people love to follow trends and this industry is no exception. In addition to trends, simple social effects such as scientists and inventors becoming more creative and innovative are one of the major effects of technology advancement in the fashion industry (Chacon and Gonzalez 144). As far as the environmentally friendly fashion technology goes, this just helps to satisfy those who are very concerned about the environmental issues.
